News From Joy and Randy

March 25, 2024

We had a great last quilt show in Dallas.  I still have some fabric and kits left so if you want some of it let me know.  The price will be $8.00 per yard and if you buy four yards you will get another yard FREE with FREE shipping.

My gardening book says that in 1989 we had 28-30 degrees and an ice storm.  All my spring flowers froze.  I am grateful for the nice weather this week.  It was about 84 degrees today and we had to turn on air conditioner in shop and house.  I started tomatoes and peppers.  I hope they live while we are gone to the Dallas Quilt Show.  I will be taking some of my old booth samples and all booth samples will be for sale.  We will be in Booth 245 close to where we have been for years.

We made it another year!  We have only had a few days of real cold weather so far.  Which we are grateful.  It will be in the 70's this week and I am wanting to start seeds.

I am sure it to early for tomatoes and peppers.  I used to start on Valentines day and have to keep adjusting due to our schedule as I have no one to water or take care of them when we are gone.  I may have to wait and start after the Dallas Quilt Show which is a week later than normal.  This will be our final quilt show.  I started in Dallas in 1993 so I am thinking it will be a good show to end.  I will have booth samples for sale and some of my Barn Quilts.  If you want to reserve a sample or a barn quilt let me know.

I have added my latest Barn Quilt on the other page.  It is Hyacinths and Blue Bonnets and a lot of work, so check it out. The link is below in a previous post.

We have finally got some cooler weather but no rain.  Randy said this week we were over 12 inches short of rain.  I gave up gardening and planting any flowers in late July.

I retreated to the shop to plant more barn quilts.  I am going to give up quilt shows next year and start doing local Spring and Fall Festivals to sell these boards.

The website has all the boards that I have available:  https://www.joysfabrics.com/barnquiltsforsale.htm

Here are some I am working on now.

Maple Leaves 2 X 2                                                                                Sold - Maple Leaves  2 X 2

Dresden Plate design on a 2 X 2 board and stenciled.

Carpenter Wheel is a 3 X 3                                                                                            Stacked Star is a 2 X 2

I still have to do some touch up and seal these.

This is a 3 X3 that we delivered to Arkansas last month.  I will be making more of this size after the first of the year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

December 24, 2022

We are very thankful for another year.  It has been cold the last few days and only minor water problems.  I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.

It is hard to believe that this year is about over.  I think the older you get the faster time passes and makes you realize that your time here on earth will be over soon, too.

I have been working on my Barn Quilts.  I have several in the last stage which is sealing them.

Randy got this one hung on the mailbox last weekend.  I just hope that cars flying by don't take out the mail box and the board.

Well, another year and another birthday.  So, thankful to still be having birthdays!

I have enjoyed making the Barn Quilts.  I have about 25 in work to take to the quilt shows next February.  I just keep seeing patterns I want to try but I have got to limit the sizes that I think we can haul.  Plus, customers can haul in their vehicles.  I will not have any 3X3 or 4X4 for the shows.  I have 12X18 with a design and then a Welcome on the bottom.  The rest will be 2X2 designs.  I will have some pictures in the next couple of weeks I can post.

I started this fabric business in September 1992 and my first quilt show was Dallas in 1993.  I am thinking I need to do the Dallas show again in March 2023.  It would be our final quilt show.  I may do some craft shows and farmers markets to sell barn quilts.

August 11, 2022

Well, we have not had and amount of rain to measure but it did cool off a little this week.  I am starting a new line of quilting Barn Quilts.  I have MDO boards on order and picked up several paint yesterday.  I will be painting mainly 2 X 2 boards for the beginning.  I may do several 4 X 4 later in the year.  I will be getting some painted to be able to bring to the quilt shows in February 2023, I hope.  Also, doing some acrylic pours on glass and canvas.  I have got to work on these before they will be ready to sell.

I have painted several test pieces on scrap wood.  The first two are 2X2 and the two small birds are 12X12.  The Crown of Thorns and Red, White and Blue are about 18X18.
